Information in this document applies to any platform.
When running nVision in a 3-tier environment, it times out if the users do not log in to the machines for a long period of time.
If the nVision “3-tier” client is left open for over an hour, it will time out. Once this occurs, users must relaunch nVision and reconnect.
On the same machine, no timeouts occur with Application Designer or Datamover.
The issue can be reproduced with the following steps:
1. Logs in nVision client in 3-tier environment.
2. Leave it idle for one hour.
3. nVision will time out.
This issue is caused by low timeout values defined in Application Server configuration file for the Workstation Listener’s Client Cleanup Timeout.
The Client Cleanup Timeout value is responsible for maintaining the client connection to the Application Server level for the defined time limit. Once the time limit has passed, the client is disconnected.
In this case, the setting was too low and the client connections were disconnected.
To resolve this issue, increase the Client Cleanup Timeout value to a higher amount.
1. Please make the changes in a Test environment before migrating to Production.
2. Navigate to pshome\appserv\<domainname>\psappsrv.cfg.
3. Locate the Workstation Listener > Client Cleanup Timeout and set it to 160.
4. Save the file.
Note, in some cases where a specific nVision report is timed out, increase the Psappsrv, Psqcksrv and Psqrysrv timeout parameters within the Psappsrv configuration file.
5. Bounce the Application Server for the settings to take effect.
